COMPRISING THE ENTIRE SIXTH FLOOR OF NEW YORK'S MUSEUM OF MODERN ART, APPROXIMATELY 350 OF TILLMAN'S PHOTOGRAPHS, VIDEOS AND MULTIMEDIA INSTALLATIONS FORM A DIALOGUE OF THE ARTIST'S BODY OF WORK. 'PHOTOGRAPHIC ETCHINGS: JACK DAVISON', COB GALLERY, LONDON
'I WANTED THE [EXHIBITION] TO BE A MANIFESTO, TO SHOW THE RANDOMNESS OF THE IMAGERY, LINKED ONLY BY MY EYE AND THE WAY I SEE THINGS. THERE'S NO FOOTNOTES, THE IMAGES ARE LINKED BY THE PROCESS.' JACK DAVISON
DRAWN TO THE SURREAL AND STRANGE, AS WELL AS THE MUNDANE AND COMMONPLACE, DAVISON SHOWCASES HIS CURIOUS OUTLOOK AND ABSTRACT APPROACH IN HIS FIRST SOLO EXHIBITION, HOUSED AT LONDON'S COB GALLERY. IN A HIGHLY CURATED SELECTION OF ARCHIVAL IMAGES, MONOCHROME PRINTS PORTRAY EVERYTHING FROM THE HUMAN FIGURE TO ARCHITECTURE, ANIMALS, OBJECTS AND NATURAL SCAPES.
HAND PRINTING THE ENTIRE CATALOGUE, DAVISON BRINGS HIS PERSONAL APPROACH TO THIS INTIMATE EXHIBITION THAT UTILISES CHIAROSCURO, FRAMING AND EXPOSURE TO COMMUNICATE HIS LOVE OF EMOTIVE ABSTRACTION.
ON VIEW UNTIL THE 12TH OF NOVEMBER, 2022
'CHRYSALIS', TYLER MITCHELL, GAGOSIAN, LONDON
'FOR THE LAST SIX YEARS, I'VE BEEN FIXATED ON BLACK FOLKS' RELATIONSHIP TO THE OUTDOORS THROUGH RECLAIMING SPACE, RETHINKING HISTORY, OR THE WAYS WE HAVE BEEN DENIED. THE IMAGES CALL FORTH THOSE HISTORIES BUT ALSO PROPOSE NEW FUTURES. COLLECTIVELY THESE MOMENTS BECOME FIGMENTS OF AN IMAGINATIVE PSYCHIC STATE OF BEING, ONE IN WHICH RADIANCE, RESISTANCE, RESTRAINT, COMFORT, AND FULL HUMAN AGENCY EXIST.'
EXPLORING THE THEMES OF BLACK HISTORY AND SOUTHERN IDENTITY, TYLER MITCHELL PROPOSES A UTOPIAN VISION OF BLACK BEAUTY, DESIRE AND BELONGING IN HIS FIRST SOLO EXHIBITION, ON SHOW AT GAGOSIAN GALLERY AS WELL AS FRIEZE MASTERS. USING NATURE AS A RECURRING THEME IN THE SERIES, MITCHELL POSITIONS HIS SUBJECTS AT ONE WITHIN THEIR SETTING, USING A SENSE OF SURREAL PLAYFULNESS.
ON VIEW UNTIL THE 12TH OF NOVEMBER, 2022
